Introducing Diablo Reels slot

The ELK Classic Series rolls in another strong entry to their popular line-up of slots on the market today with the Mexican festival of Dia De Meurtos. ELK Studios has taken the design and theme a step further, doing a deal with the devil so to speak in order to create the incredible slot they offer us today; complete with respins, free spins and wilds that vary from stacked, sticky and multiplying. The Dia De Muertos concept is not unknown in the slot gaming industry, but ELK Studios has pulled it off incredibly using plenty of colours, cigars, potions, skulls, sombreros, and flowers. It wouldn’t be particularly controversial if we were to claim that Diablo Reels is the most well-designed and stylish slot in the ELK Classic Series.

The soundtrack adds to the theme and feel of the slot, giving a sexy Latin track adds a certain vibe, which switches up and launches into full Mariachi mode when the free spins feature is activated. The reels rotate with a number of old-fashioned bleeping noises and these are interspersed by the heavy blows that come from winning combinations. The audio is simple in a number of ways but adds to the vibe of the slot with the aesthetically pleasing nature. The game has a physical slot presence which we feel makes it an impressive additional member to the series.
Finally we get to the real action. The wins are won across a standard 3-reel, 3-row grid with only five pay lines. However there is three more rows above the main section that you are playing on. This extra little grid can be unlocked during certain features, which sees both reel sets available to the player.

Betting strategy and RTP

The play for the slot is based on a betting range of 20p to £100 per spin, with a math model that has some similarities to Hit It Hard. The high volatility, rated 8/10 is combined together with a solid 96.3% RTP which is higher than the usual 96% RTP we’re used to seeing. However, while this is all well and good, the slot does boil down to being a more dramatized fruit machine and therefore the win hit rate is set at only 18.1%, rather modest we think.

Symbols and Design

Clicking onto the paytable you will see a number of symbols that would not seem out of place accompanying shots and tacos in an authentic Mexican restaurant. Players are given chillies, limes, watermelons, bars, horseshoes, bells, sevens, and diamonds, which increase in value for wins, respectively. ELK has done an incredible job in making sure that these symbols look like players have never seen them before. But realistically we are talking about very generic symbols in reality.

The wild symbol however is helpful to the player, on hand to help string some additional wins together in a number of different ways. Its main role is seen when it substitutes for all other symbols on the grid in order that additional wins be made. However there are a number of additional roles covered further below in Features for you to read on. The wild will pay the same as diamonds when a full pay line is matched.

Features for the slot

Nudging Wilds is the first of the features which sees regular wilds imprinted with an arrow landing on the reels and awarding the player with respins until the wild has been nudged up to leave the top of the reel. If it lands on the top reel, it may also have a multiplier of x2 or x5 attached.
When a fully stacked reel of wilds appears, the Wild Stack Respin is triggered. This feature awards a respin on both of the sets of reels – the main game play one and the additional. With both of the reel sets playing, the number of pay lines doubles to 10 giving the player double the chance to win. Also, if you land wilds simultaneously on the reels, they become sticky and help to boost the wins of the player.

Mr Diablo is the final feature and with his horned skull acts as the scatter for the slot. Landing three of these will trigger the Free Spins feature, where the player is awarded 10 free spins. During this feature both reels become active so that all 10 pay lines are in play. A bonus to this bonus game is that there are no lower value symbols on the upper set of reels, and the chance to extend the features by landing an addition three scatter symbols.

Final notes on Diablo Reels

If you have played the other slots in this series then you will know what to be expecting by now. Diablo Reels is an excellent example of this series’ slot and offers an incredible theme and stunning audio and visual package which all blends flawlessly together to give the player a perfect slot. The base game does not see masses of wins, but the Stacked and Nudging Wilds do well to improve the playability of the slot. With a maximum of 2,500 times the stake available to the player, it’s not huge, but it does offer an interesting proposal for those thinking of spinning.

If you’re looking for a higher winning game in the series then Win Win is the one to go for with a maximum potential of 5,000x. As a 3x3 fruit slot, we love the number of features and fun twists the slot has to offer. There is plenty to love about Diablo Reels and ample wins for the player to have. For a night of Mexican fun and tequilas, Diablo Reels is the best way to get into the culture.
