Taco Brothers Derailed Overview
The Taco Brothers are on a mission to hijack a train full of gold in the Mexican desert. They may be hapless or a smooth train jacking outfit trained to take down one of these fantastic locomotives. Your job is to come away from this whole exchange richer and, if you are lucky, with a few tacos in hand. What might help you in this highwaymen-style robbery is the fact you have 466 pay lines available and a heap of bonus features. Mechanically you’ll find this game is on a 6-reel board and has an RTP of 95%. The top win here is a decent 10,000x the stake. This game is available across platforms, including desktop, mobile and tablet.
The features for Taco Brothers Derailed begin with a walking wilds feature. All Taco Brother icons can become walking wilds. When they do so, they will begin a re-spin dynamic. The walking wilds then shift left for every re-spin until the wilds fall off the board. These walking wilds also come in a multiplier format, with all wins boosted by attached multipliers. Then there is the Taco Train Heist feature triggered by landing 3 Taco Brothers onus symbols. Finally, this game also has a Taco Smash ‘n Grab feature and the obligatory X-iter feature that comes with all ELK studio games. All features will be explained later in the review.
Theme and Symbols
The theme for Taco Brothers Derailed is a train heist happening in the Mexican wilderness. The aesthetic is an appealing combination of Mexicana and The Wild West. The basic narrative that runs through this game is that some Mexican bandits are looking to stick up the train to steal the precious gold on board. The heisters are the three Taco brothers brandishing various weapons and wearing bandanas. The whole scene is exhilarating and a perfect theme for a thrilling slot game.
The background for this game is the interior of one of the 1st class carriages. You can tell this is one of the higher-class carriages as the furnishings are all luxury, and the space has been decorated with great care and precision. The interior looks palatial thanks to its stark contrast with the arid and inhospitable desert seen through the carriages’ windows. With relatively few details, the designers have given a great impression of what it would be like to be on a train thundering through Mexico.
The playing board for this game is a translucent black rectangle hardly visible through the melee of cascading symbols.
The symbols for this game are split into low-paying, high-paying and special symbols. The low-paying symbols are the maracas, whistle, ram skull, lantern and gold safe. The gold safe is the most valuable of these paying out at 2x the bet for the top combination. The more valuable icons are the brothers Pico, Pepe and Paso. Paso is the most valuable of these, worth 50x the stake for the top combination. The specials are comprised of the normal wild, the walking multiplier wild, the Pico walking wild, the Pepe walking wild, the Paso walking wild, the scatter symbol, then finally Captain Diaz, the Senorita and the Captain Diaz wild.
Taco Brothers Derailed is played on a six-reel, four-row gameboard with 466 pay lines. To win combinations, players must land three or more matching symbols on pay lines moving from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The first feature included in this game is the Walking Wilds bonus. All Taco Brother symbols can suddenly appear as walking wilds. When they do, they start a re-spin dynamic and shift left with each re-spin. As they move, they transform other Taco Brother symbols they meet into wilds along the way. This feature ends when all walking wilds have fallen off the leftmost reel.
This mechanic also happens with Multiplier Walking Wilds and is exactly the same apart from the walking wilds have attached multipliers of 5x the stake. This helps boost any wins that the wilds are a part of.
Next is the Taco Train Heist feature. It is triggered when players land three Taco Brothers bonus symbols on the reels. Each Taco Brother walking wild will then appear after each other delivering re-spins as they walk across the reels. These Taco Brother walking wilds also come with random multipliers. Importantly, if Captain Diaz lands, he will incarcerate one of the brothers stopping them from interacting with symbols. However, they can be unlocked by the Senorita icon, sending them back to the rightmost reel to give you more re-spins. If both Captain Diaz and the Senorita land at the same time, Captain Diaz transforms into a wild.
Next on the feature list is the Taco Smash ‘n Grab feature. This is triggered when you land four Taco Brothers bonus symbols on the reels. In this round, the Walking Wild Taco Brothers and Walking Multiplier Wild move simultaneously from right to left until they fall off reel 1. Captain Diaz is always wild in this feature and cannot lock up any of the brothers. The Senorita character will still pull walking wilds back to the start to top up your re-spins.
Finally, this game has also got a bonus buy option in the form of the X-iter feature. However, this option is not available in the UK.
Wild West slots always seem to have that added layer of fun and danger, and this one is one of the best we have played in a while. The graphics and aesthetics are also great, and the characters are fun. Win potential-wise, the top end of things looks good; however, the RTP is well below where it needs to be to find frequent wins. Then again, if you like reaching for the stars and a high-quality western feel, not many slots will compete with this one.
