Toro 7s Overview

Toro 7s represents the last in the ELK Studios’ set of games known as the Toro series. There have been quite a few before this one, each of which has been a pretty worthwhile game. However, the studio seems to want to retire the format for whatever reason, as they announced that this game would be the last to bear the Toro name. Mechanically, it comes with three reels and 17 pay lines. Thematically, the Toro and the matador have been given a Las Vegas aesthetic, the bull even sporting a leather jacket and a slick new hairdo.

This game has plenty of features, beginning with the nudging re-spin feature triggered either by landing a matador on reel two or when the Toro wild lands on reel three. Both award you with re-spins and nudges that help you score more wins. Next is the free spins feature. This game is triggered when players land three of the bonus scatters on the reels simultaneously.

This will provide you with ten free spins, with each win subject to a 5x multiplier. You can also trigger the lucky 7s feature during the free spins round by landing three bonus symbols. Theme and Symbols

As mentioned, this game is a classic Las Vegas casino game with fruity symbols and a Nevada background. As they always do, the main characters in the Toro slots – the matador and the bull, have adapted to their new surroundings, wearing a new, more appropriate outfit for the glitzy streets of sin city. The matador has his hair slicked back like a guy from the west side story, whereas the bull has adopted a leather jacket to fit in with the ‘cool’ crowd of Las Vegas. From the looks of the background, the style of the symbols, and the general feel of the game, this Las Vegas is not the modern version but perhaps the Las Vegas of the 1950s’.

The background is a strange choice considering that the game represents the fast-paced glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. It looks like a vision of the edge of town where abandoned roller coasters, sleazy motels, and small convenience shops hope to benefit from the spillover from the centre of town. There is something oddly melancholic about this image; it might be the absence of people or the fact that it is set in the evening when all the people in the city must be enjoying their night out. Whatever the thought behind using this image, it is of a very high standard, with a lot of detail and a beautiful colour palette that is much subtler than the gaudy hues of the game’s symbols.

The symbols for this game are split into high-paying, low-paying and special symbols. The low paying symbols are the cherries, orange and plum fruits. The highest paying of these is the plum which pays out at 1.5x the stake for the top combination. On the other hand, the higher paying symbols are the BAR and the trio of sevens – green, blue, and red. The most valuable of these is the red seven paying out at 10x the stake for the top combination. Finally, the specials for this game are the Matador wild, the Toro multiplier wild, and the bonus scatter. Each has its application for the bonus features in this game.

Game Play

Toro 7s is played on a 3-reel, 3-row machine with 17 connecting pay lines. Players must land three matching symbols on pay lines moving from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel to win combinations.

The other way to trigger the feature is by landing a Toro wild multiplier symbol on reel three. This symbol, like the matador, will also nudge down one place for every re-spin granted until he falls off the reels. A re-spin is awarded for every nudge. The toro wild benefits from a 5x multiplier.

Both of the Matador and Toro wilds can land at the same time. When this happens, the toro icon freezes to its position while the matador performs the nudges and creates re-spins.

The second feature is the free spins bonus triggered when players land three or more of the Toro scatters on the reels. This will award you with ten free spins. Every win in the free spins is subject to a 5x multiplier.

Next on the feature list is the Lucky 7s feature, triggered when three bonus symbols land within the free spins. Once this occurs, you should try to land green 7s on reel one, blue 7s on reel two and red 7s on reel three. Doing so gains you entry to the Lucky 7s paytable. If you collect five of each 7 on every reel, you will be rewarded with the top prize of 10,000x the stake.
The X-iter feature also allows you to purchase different levels of bonuses for different multiplications of your stake.

Conclusion

If this is truly to be the final swan song of the Toro series, then at least they went out on a bit of a bang (despite the strange aesthetic). The features involved here are the real reason you’d play this slot. There should be plenty of chances to get those higher payouts with multiplying wilds, re-spins, and free spins. That being said, the RTP is fairly low, so maybe wins won’t come quite as often as first thought.
