Aztec Wilds Free Slots

If you are a fan of Aztec themed slot you will already know there are several games of this genre that have already been released this year, and Iron Dog Studios have now joined them. You have to ask why Aztecs are such a draw for developers, I think it is all down to the legends of gold and exotic images that motivate the developers and players too, but whatever the reason this type of slot continues onwards, now we can take a good look at Iron Dog’s slot and see how it stands up to the competition.

The first impression of Aztec Wilds is that it is not a game that hasn’t run with the theme like some of its competitors have, and although it is visually appealing in a sort of jungle, exotic way you really could be anywhere in South America. When it comes to placing your bet, you must use a minimum of 50 coins per spin and this goes up to £100 per spin so a slot that will appeal to the masses. When you are ready you need to choose the level and spin your reels. There are 5-reels that contain 4-rows that use the tumbling method. The return to player is set at a medium volatility of 96.2% and there are a massive 1,024 ways for you to win. Provided you land the same symbols starting from reel one it will result in a winning combination, it really is that easy.

The symbols you can expect to come across are the usual playing card low paying symbols 9 through to Ace, all of which display beautiful tribal decoration. The mid-level symbols include red, green and blue masks and the highest paying symbols are represented by three separate gold symbols. The diamond shaped symbol is the highest payer and rewards you with 8x your stake for landing five of a kind, and whilst this is not that valuable tumble reels games do tend to be typically lower and this is even more obvious when a definitive number of tumbles unlock the bonus feature.

The first feature on offer is the Free spins feature and as the title of this slot suggests the wilds play a major part in this slot. The standard wild is the gold one and this can substitute for other symbols and is then removed when it has made up a winning combination. The next wild is the multi-coloured sticky wild which can only land on your third reel. The sticky wild stays on the grid when it has been part of a winning combination and tumble if there are winning combinations beneath. The final wild is the big gold “W” and this is the expanding wild which can only land on your 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th reels and when it does it will expand to cover the entire reel. Although the wilds will really help you out the way to land the big wins is by landing consecutive tumbles, and as with any tumble feature winning combinations are removed to allow new symbols to fall into the space with the potential to create even more winning combinations.

There is a meter that is located next to the reels and this begins to fill up when you land wins, landing four consecutive combinations one after another to be rewarded. Landing four wins as described above rewards you with 14 free spins, five wins in a row rewards you with 16 free spins. Land six wins and you will be rewarded with 16 free spins with a 3x multiplier, seven wins in a row results in 20 free spins and a 3x multiplier. Finally, landing eight wins in a row will reward you with 20 free spins a 6x multiplier. Each tumble landed increases the multiplier by 1x which is applicable to the spin win and during the free spins feature there are no expanding or sticky wilds in play.

My Verdict

Whilst Aztec Wilds is a reasonably good slot, I got the impression that there was something lacking, and it is a slot that in my opinion has not reached its potential. I feel that the theme was not really utilized and whilst the symbols have an Aztec feel it all feels a little flat and incomplete. I do like the winnings available which can be worth 6,000x your stake. The way that the tumble wins take you to the free spins feature is very enticing, but in all fairness this concept is something that you will have seen before.
