The features for this game, as we have already mentioned, are numerous and exciting. They begin with the various random modifiers, which can add a variety of new symbols to the board to help score bigger wins. These include wilds, mystery icons and multipliers. In addition to these, there is the eponymous Hold and Win re-spin feature, which gives you the chance of winning one of three different sized jackpots. Finally, this game also has a free spins game, triggered when players land three or more of the delivery truck driver scatters on the reels at once. All features will be explained in greater detail further on in the review.
Theme and Symbols
The theme for Diamond Heist: Hold and Win is obviously a bank robbery. The studio has had a lot of fun with the theme here, creating a cartoon style that looks high quality and very entertaining and colourful. The narrative that runs through this game is that the thief (the leather jacket-wearing gentleman with the lit cigarette in his mouth) is hoping to infiltrate a bank and get away with the many sacks of precious diamonds held there.
The background for this game is the actual edifice of the bank seen from the bottom steps of the front entrance. The bank is in the traditional Roman-inspired architecture, with large columns and an imposing square frontage that looks heavy and impregnable. The lighting used in the background gives the image an element of mystery and shows the time signature of dusk- the perfect time to engage in a heist. There is also a glowing orange section in the middle of the background. This signals perhaps that the thieves are cutting out a door with some sort of blowtorch.
The playing board for this game is fairly non-existent apart from the locked safe to the right-hand side of the reels, which provides a necessary thematic element and acts as the multiplier counter.
The symbols for this game are split into high-paying, low-paying and special symbols. The low-paying symbols are the 10 to A in playing card royals. These spin alongside the more high-value symbols. These comprise banknotes, luxury watches, gold bars and diamonds. However, the most valuable symbol on the board is the thief himself. He pays out at 25x your stake for the top combination. Special symbols include the wild, and the two scatter symbols- the getaway truck and the detonator.
The Diamond Heist: Hold and Win is played on a 5-reel, 3-row machine with 20 fixed pay lines. To win combinations, players must land three or more matching symbols on pay lines moving from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.
The betting range for The Diamond Heist: Hold and Win is 20p to £20 per spin. To adjust their bet levels, players can toggle their stake up and down using the tool located at the bottom left-hand side of the screen.
Further information, including a short tutorial and a display of the paytable, can be found via the menu button in the right-hand corner of the screen. The spin and auto spin buttons are located in the centre of the screen.
Volatility for this slot is rated in the middle range. The return to player percentage for The Diamond Heist: Hold and Win is 96%, which is about average. The biggest payout that players can win on one spin is 5,000x your stake.
The first feature in this game is the group of Random Modifiers. These, as they sound, are triggered completely at random on any spin in the base game. They come in three types:
Wild Modifier- Between 3 and 6 wilds are placed onto the playing window in random spots. A payout calculation will then follow.
Mystery Symbols Modifier – Between 5 and 10 mystery symbols are deposited onto the reels. These symbols all turn into the same symbol after they are despotised. Again, a payout calculation will follow.
Multiplier feature – A random multiplier will suddenly boost your next win by anywhere from 2x to 10x.
Next on the feature list is the feature that the game calls Heist Mode. If you land three or more detonator scatters on the reels, you will trigger this feature. Then, for the following 20 spins, diamond symbols will be able to land on the reels. Every diamond is then collected in a meter. You will trigger the Diamond Heist Re-spins feature if you manage to collect five or more diamonds whilst in the Heist Mode.
The Diamond Heist Re-Spins feature gives you a total of 3 re-spins on a new set of reels comprised of just blanks, diamonds, keys and alarms. For every new diamond that falls, the re-spins will be reset to 3, and the diamonds are held in place. The feature will end if you run out of spins or if you land three-alarm symbols.
At the end of the feature, all of the multiplier values attached to the diamonds are combined to award an overall prize. Jackpot prizes are also available via this feature, and they come in sizes of 100x 250x or 500x the stake.
Finally, there is the free spins game. This is triggered by landing three or more of the truck scatter symbols on the same spin. The more scatters you use to trigger the feature, the more spins you will be granted.
During these spins, an increasing multiplier is in play. It begins at 1x but will grow for every spin in the round. You may also retrigger the round by landing an additional set of scatters.
There is a lot to like about this slot, from the well-executed graphics and style to the engaging features. We even enjoyed the suggestion that we were involved in an exciting bank robbery. The only real letdown here is that the top prizes aren’t all that tempting. So, maybe this is more of a slot played for fun rather than for financial gain.
