Gold Digger from iSoftBet is a well-presented slot that is an easy-going and offers some interesting features. You would be forgiven for thinking that this slot could be about some dodgy character who wants to exhort the money from your pocket, but you will be pleased to see that this is not the case and actually features a mining cart and miner who spend their time collecting and blowing stuff up to collect the gold from under the ground.
There are several mining slots available with a plethora of styles such as Bonanza Megaways and Blueprint Gaming's lookalike Diamond Mine Megaways. When you first open this slot, it appears to have adopted an orthodox approach, however, the slot can provide you with some real surprises during the bonus round. It may not be that original, but it offers a few features that players will find endearing. If you are ready to search for some gold nuggets of your own keep reading.
Gold Digger Overview
When you open the game you are greeted with a short animation that takes you down a mine shaft and sees you meeting with an old fashioned prospector dressed in blue jeans, a Stetson hat, sporting plenty of facial hair and a glint in his eye. The prospector in this slot looks rather mad with his hands over the detonator as if he cannot wait to blow up something. He is clearly keen on gold or maybe he just likes to blow things up. You will come across this fella in the game as he throws the occasional modifiers onto your reels. The whole theme is brought together well with the mining theme soundtrack that features an upbeat banjo strumming away in the background.
Game Play & Bet Range
The game is nowhere near as volatile as the miner is and has been rated by the developers as just above medium. There is not surprising with the return to player either as this sits at 96% which is the norm for slots today and will be agreeable with most players.
The game plays out over 5-reels, 3-rows (which can expand) and 20 fixed pay lines and once the game has loaded it is time to place your bet. The bet range starts from just 20p per spin up to a maximum of £20 per spin which is a broad enough range that will suit most players. Winning combinations are created by landing three or more of the same symbols next to each other on a pay line running from the first reel on the left.
There are no shocks when you open the pay table as most of the symbols are based on the mining theme, this is apart from the lower paying symbols which are the usual playing card symbols that start from Jack through to Ace. The higher paying symbols are represented by a lantern, a pick, the prospector, and a gold carriage. Although there are just eight symbols, they do provide you with good value with 5 miners paying 25x your stake.
There are however some special symbols that you should keep your eyes open for, the first is the wild which is depicted by the exploding cloud and can appear anywhere on your game screen to substitute for the other symbols apart from the gems and gold nuggets to create winning combinations. Whilst not advertised on the pay table the rules of this slot state that if you land a combination that is solely created from wilds, they pay the same as the prospector, which is the highest prize available.
Gold Digging Features
When it comes to the features you will not be disappointed with the first one proving that the miner chao is not included just to make the slot look better as from time to time he will throw one of his tools onto your reels to assist you in making winning combinations. The results are random and could see his stick of dynamite turning between three and five of your symbols wild, or if he throws the pick on your reels your symbols will turn into gold nuggets and should be press the detonator and create an explosion certain symbols will upgrade.
You need to watch out for the large gold nugget symbols as these have an individual prize shown on them. If you land five or more the nuggets will lock in place and activate the Gold Link Respin feature where you start with 3 re-spins. If you get lucky and land any new nuggets these lock in place and your re-spins are reset and you are rewarded with another 3 re-spins. This action continues until you have used all your re-spins, or the play screen is covered with nuggets, and in either case the value is totted up and paid at the end of the feature.
Whilst playing the Gold Link Re-spins you could also land some gems and if you get lucky and amass 3 of the same you will activate an additional bonus. The reels bonus is triggered by the blue gems and will unlock three additional rows on your screen, the values booster is activated by landing green gems and this will increase the amount in value of the nuggets you have landed. The red gems give you the spins+ booster which reward you with extra re-spins and finally there is the multiplier booster which comes courtesy of the purple gems and increases the multiplier up to a maximum of 10 times.
Gold Digger appeared rather plain to begin with however this all changed when I discovered what was waiting for me on the pay table in the form of boosters and re-spins. It did seem quite a while before I landed my first set of re-spins although I am happy to say it was worth the wait.
The slot has a cute, pleasant ambience and is expertly executed. The math model does produce quite a lot of low-value spins but you need to keep in the back of your mind that this slot has a top potential to reward you with a massive 8,230x your stake, and landing a bunch of nuggets can be really worthwhile.
I really enjoyed playing this slot and it is great for some low-key fun, but it is not going to provide you with life changing amounts but if you are patient who knows what may happen? I would rate Gold Digger at a solid 7/10, it is well created and provides solid gameplay with some great win potential. What more could you want?
