Introducing Thunder Shields slot

Thunder Shields is the latest slot from the developers at iSoftBet and is the next instalment in their Hold and Win range of slots. This slot invites you to take to the high seas onboard a Viking ship with aged warriors who are hunting down the treasure. Luckily, there is no need for you to hold the townsfolk or priest to task by your sword to get access to the gold. However, land the big wins and there is no reason why you cannot use your axe to crack open the kegs and celebrate in the long hall.

Theme and Design

From the moment your game screen loads the mood of the slot is felt. The ship complete with carvings slices through the sea with the waves crashing against its sides as the lightning rips through and lights up the skies. The sight of this would no doubt have caused the locals great amounts of terror when they travelled up the rivers or across the coasts. It is not as if the crew on the ship were coming to sit with them and catch up on the latest gossip, the ship meant only one thing, and this is that the time had come them all to be slaughtered. The scene is set incredibly well due to the opening images and would strike fear into the hearts of the locals and stir up all manner of feelings as the slot begins.

Game Play & Statistics

Once loaded the imagery used in the game is extremely dramatic. The slot plays out on a large 5x4 grid which is complete with 40 fixed pay lines. There is a red gold horizon that shimmers in the distance and around the edges of your reels, which may be testament to the burning buildings or alternatively from the night sunset. I would rather opt for the sunset as this is not as harsh. In the background there is a dramatic soundtrack which although may not be the type of music you would put with the Vikings; it does a great job in complementing the mood.

Thunder Shields can be played on all devices, and the first thing you need to do is decide which bet level you are most comfortable playing with, and this starts from a minimum of 40p per spin up to a maximum of £40 per spin. The default return to player is bang on providing an average of 96% and the developers have given the slot a volatility rating of medium to high. The symbol values are not that lucrative however there are a stack of features which include a Hold & Win centrepiece, and there are many extras that break up the base gameplay.

To create a win over the standard lines you need to land three or more of the same symbols on one of your pay lines starting from the left most reel. The symbols are not the most lucrative with the lower paying being represented by the usual Card Royals 10 through to Ace, and these are then followed by the high paying character symbols that will nett you 1.875x- 6.25x your stake for landing a line of five.

When it comes to the features the low value symbols pop up quite regularly in the base game and include two types of re-spins and mystery spins. The mystery symbol is represented by the crossed axes tile and this can land in full or partially stacks on your reels to reveal the same matching symbol type once your reels stop spinning. The mystery spins feature can trigger at random at any time in the main game, and when it is active you will find that at least three reels land completely full of mystery stacks, then reveal the same matching symbol that landed to activate the stack.

The wild in this game is represented by the electrified golden hammer which can replace any other symbols to create a winning combination. This is not all, as whenever you land a wild it will activate a Colossal re-spin. The first re-spin joins the first 2 reels to create huge symbols, and if you land a wild on your next re-spin an extra re-spin is awarded, and the giant symbol will then grow by one reel up to a maximum of four in width. If you get lucky and land the fourth reel spin you will be rewarded with a multiplier of x2. This multiplier can continue to grow by 1 for every re-spin that is activated by a wild. All the symbols, including the Cash Shields count as the number of positions when they land as a giant symbol. Therefore, it is possible for you to activate the Holden & Win re-spins from a Colossal Re-spin.

The Golden circle symbols offer values from x1 to x250 Cash Shields. When you land six or more anywhere in view you will activate the Hold & Win feature and be rewarded with three re-spins. The feature begins with the activation of the Cash Shields locking into place and whenever new one land the re-spins are reset. Once the spins returned to 0 all the values are collected. As well as landing Cash Shields there are some special Shields that you can land which will increase your winnings. If you land a two multiplier this will double all the cash values, land the collector symbol and this will collect the cash values to free up space for more Cash Shields to land. The Reel Boost adds an additional reel to the grid, and you can land up to two of these. Next is the Cash Boost which increases the cash values that are currently in view on your game screen and finally there is the Re-spin Boost which permanently increases the number of free spins on your counter by one.

As well as this there is also a chance for you to land three Thunderstorm Prizes during the Hold & Win feature, these are the Mini, Major and Mega which are worth 10x, 100x, and 1000x your bet, respectively. You should note that the x2 multiplier can double these values as well. You need to land three of the Storm Shields during the Hold & Win feature to unlock the Thunderstorm prizes and doing so will see one randomly awarded.

Thanks to the features this slot offers you may think there is more going on than there is. The Hold & Win bonus is rather intricate for a feature; however, the rest of the game consist mainly of landing low value line wins. The symbols may be so low due to the Colossal Re-spins that create huge symbols and make creating full screen wins a possibility. But even then, a grid stacked with the highest premiums will only pay you out 250x your stake.
For a Hold and Win+ game, Thunder Shields is worthy of a test run. It offers some great visuals that are backed up with a bit of attitude, and a bundle of features to keep you hitting the spin button whilst waiting for Cash Shields to land.
