Overview Chicken Fox 5x Skillstar slot

Chicken Fox 5x Skillstar is the second slot machine in a series by Lightning Box and appears to have borrowed a few things from original and added a number of additional features itself to make for a brand-new slot. It feels familiar but this is due largely to the farm-themed design, which stays pretty much the same. The math model and features have been modified meaning the slot certainly will not play the same way. We cannot say we are crazy about the potentials for this slot, but we will go into this later on in the review. For now, we will give you the main information you need to know.

Chicken Fox 5x Skillstar has a reel set which is across 5 reels and 3 rows, which gives the player a total of 20 active pay lines. The developers at Lightning Box rely on the Lady wilds, Golden Egg scatters and free spins to reel in the players, as well as the Skillstar bonus. With the winning combinations and bonus features, the slot can pay the player up to 758 times the stake in a single spin. This is equivalent to 18,950 coins worth around $246,350. With the high volatility but lack lustre RTP we do not know what to think. Some aspects are great, while others are not so much.

Bet Strategy

Each round needs 25 coins to start and these have a minimum bet of $0.25 and a maximum of $325, which can be used to get yourself some big wins. The line bet can change up to $13 as well which gives even more potential for the player.
As already mentioned, there is the chance of winning 758 times the stake, giving a potential maximum cash win of $246,350. This is not all that impressive given the slots that are currently being marketed and we feel this is a little bit of a let-down. With a high volatility we would have expected so much more than we have been given and it just makes us feel not quite right. However it would explain the disappointing Return To Player (RTP), which sits below average at 95.61%. While it isn’t the lowest we have seen in recent weeks, it is lower than we would like to see on a slot to consider it a decent one.

Symbols

Lightning Box have gone for the same theme of the original, setting Chicken Fox 5x Skillstar in the same chicken coop that the original was in and once again, you are trying to steal the golden eggs from the hens inside. The design has a cutesy vibe, with the developers opting for the animated style theme again. However, you cannot really see many differences when you compare it to the original slot.

The symbols involved with this slot are the regular royals – A, K, Q, J, and 10 – as well as classic farmyard animals including roosters, hens, chicks, pigs and goats, not to mention a good ol’ rusty tractor for the player to spin with. On top of these you have two wilds, the Wild Lady, and the Wild Fox, as well as the Golden Egg scatter. We do like this part, the symbols and design, and we think it is well done in the grand scheme of things.

Features

The first one to mention is the Wild Lady, which acts as a substitute for all other symbols except for the scatter and other wild. Ideally though, you want it to land on its own and take the full line. Rewards of 5,000 coins are up for grabs. Regular combinations cannot even reach this same level, even if you add in a 5x wild multiplier into the mix. The Wild Lady will only pay out during the paid spins.

The second wild is the Wild Fox and can also substitute for all symbols except for the scatter and the Wild Lady. However it can come in both regular and 5x forms. As you have probably sussed, the latter will have a multiplier of 5 times the stake attached to contribute towards the wins. These you will only encounter during the free spins.
Speaking of free spins, this is triggered by the Golden Egg scatter and when landing 3, 4 or 5 of them on a reel, you will be rewarded with 8, 15 or 30 free spins, respectively. Of these, there will be prizes attached, paying out between 2x and 100x for 3, 4 or 5 symbols.

Alongside the Wild Fox wilds, which can have a multiplier attached, the free spins can also be retriggered when getting the eggs and Wild Fox icons together. The regular wild will see 1 to 5 free spins, while the multiplier ones will see 5 to 25 spins.
There is a fun little minigame for you to try before the free spins, and it is called Skillstar. It will involve using the keyboard and arrows to move a fox left and right, attempting to catch golden eggs as it does. However, this does not pay anything and is just for fun. You do have the option to skip this.

Conclusion

Chicken Fox 5x Skillstar by Lightning Box is a new slot that has changed a fair bit since the original. Unfortunately, it has ended up with a high volatility and a reward that is way too low. The jackpot is not enough to give the player something worthwhile to work towards.

The bonus game seems pointless, even though it is in the name, as you do not actually win anything for playing. If it determined spins or multiplier then we could see the point but since it doesn’t, would a feature that actually does something not be better?
Overall it isn’t the best game around, but it is worth checking out if you are a fan of the original Chicken Fox slot.
