Introducing the Dark King Forbidden Riches slot
Dark King Forbidden Riches is one of the latest slot releases from NetEnt which will see you exploring the dark side of life in this truly atmospheric offering. There is a true aura of doom and gloom and a prolonged math model that will make you want to die from thousands of cuts as opposed to having your head chopped off! It would be understandable if you decided to give this slot a miss, however you will be pleased to hear that despite the dark environment this is quite a light hearted slot and this combined with the free spins, multipliers and sticky wilds it is definitely worth a spins or two and I am betting you will enjoy it too!
NetEnt have managed to create a slot that has just the right amount of creep factor, and this is mainly due to the Dark King who is decked out in armour plate with only his menacing eyes visible through the eye slit. As in slots of the past from this developer there is not that much material that accompanies this game as they rely on the slot to fill in any blank spots. In my opinion it would have been better if the developers could have expanded a little on the story to create more suspense and sense of purpose. It is not all bad though and if you are feeling brave you can join the journey deep within the lair of the Dark King.
Gameplay & Statistics
Once in the lair you will see that all the action takes place on the 5-reels and 20 pay line grid which bears a resemblance to the Frey’s hall room in the hugely popular Game of Thrones, where the Red wedding took place prior to Arya getting rid of the backstabbers. This slot does not reach such depths of depravity but it does have the same rich character which includes an abundance of candles, creepy looking heads that are below the reels and a soundtrack that brings everything together perfectly, there is no doubt that fantasy fans will adore this game.
The slot can be played on all devices and there is a wide bet range on offer which makes the slot playable by all. When it comes to placing your bet this starts from as little as 20p per spin up to a maximum of £400 per spin and the slot offers a medium to high volatility which should help you to make the most of the time you spend in the lair. This is time that you may need as the free spins are not that frequent however with a return to player of 96.06% you can expect above average on your rate of return.
The pay table opens to show the low paying symbols which are unsurprisingly the usual playing card symbols 10 through to Ace which are all designed using a gothic muscular typeface. If you manage to land five on a pay line you will be rewarded with a prize of 2.5x to 5x your stake. These symbols are followed by four minion characters that you would not want to come across and their leader the Dark King. Each one of these characters can be really rewarding and pay out from 12.5x to 25x your bet.
The swirly aqua orb is as valuable as the Dark King and is the wild meaning that it can substitute for all the other symbols except for the scatter, and the wild also ties in with the features but we will look at shortly.
When it comes down to it you will want to land the sticky wilds and multipliers and if lady luck is with you, you will land them both together. If you land two or more wilds in view when you are playing in the base game the multiplier is triggered. The number of wilds in view will equate to the multiplier which goes up to 5x and any wins are evaluated then the multiplier added.
You need to keep your eyes open for the red gem which is the scatter landing anywhere on your screen. If you land 3, 4, or 5 you will be rewarded with 10, 12, or 15 free spins, respectively. The free spins start by adding a hot spot pattern above the reels and there is a fixed area shaped as a cross on your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th reels.
Whilst playing this feature any wilds that you land in the cross shaped hot spot area turns into a sticky wild and with each new sticky wild one more free spin gets added to your total and then remains in the same position until the feature comes to an end. The multipliers continue and are calculated by regular and sticky wild on the reels with the maximum value staying at x5 your stake.
If I had to sum this slot up in one word it would be dark, as NetEnt have gone all out with the theme. Whilst it does not have a huge amount of polish or any type of humour however it remains intriguing even if you do not work out why! Music plays a big part in this slot and alternates between intrigue, discovery, mystery and ends with a religious climax, and there is no doubt that the sound team at NetEnt are to be commended for it.
Throughout most of the slot the action is straightforward, the base game turns things up a notch thanks to the wild multiplier feature, doling out a worthy win every now and again. What you will be hoping to land are the free spins with the combination of either sticky wilds and or multipliers. If it falls your way you could win up to 2,000x your stake on every spin. When I tested the slot, I only landed 100x in the free spins, but this was still a welcome win.
If you are looking for a fantasy themed slot, then Dark King Forbidden Riches will certainly tick a lot of your boxes. The sounds and graphics are a highlight but there is something that goes far deeper in this slot. With its hidden menace that is never uncovered Dark King Forbidden Riches is packed with a fun bonus game and gives you several ways to land wins.
