Designed and powered by iGaming studio NextGen Gaming, Reign of the Mountain King is the long-awaited sequel of Rise of the Mountain King. Presumably, the King has risen to the top and is finally ruling his Kingdom with staunch authority in the intervening period. This mythical medieval slot is similar in aesthetic to the beloved World of Warcraft online game but is apparently inspired by Nordic Mythology.

If that reference doesn’t translate, then it is also very similar to the look and feel of Lord of the Rings - with Nordic characters and symbols making up the majority of the visual appeal. There is only one bonus feature available in this game; it is a re-spin game triggered when players land any three wild symbols on the central three reels. Theme and Symbols

Based on the mythical world of Nordic legend, this game is heavily influenced by the stories of Thor, Odin and all the other Nordic gods. This is immediately apparent when you open the game as you are welcomed to the great halls of Valhalla, or at the very least to the realm of Asgard. Being a Nordic theme, the reels are full of axes, shields and various combat paraphernalia; as the gods and their followers, the famous Vikings were known to have an appetite for wars, pillaging and general aggression. The cartoon finish is appealing and incredibly colourful. It is a style that fits the exciting theme and feels like a high-quality video game.

The background for this game is mentioned in the great halls of Valhalla. Valhalla has a very special place in Nordic mythology as it is the destination of all brave Viking warriors killed in battle. Valhalla is an enormous drinking hall where warriors can feast and drink to their heart’s content as a reward for pleasing the gods with their heroic feats in life. The columns, floor and surroundings are all incredibly opulent and laced with gold, giving the space a grandness appropriate for a hall frequented by the most mighty and wise of gods and their hero guests. The intricate inlaid details on the various architectural features are particularly impressive.

The board for this game is non-existent. The symbols simply float on the screen unconstrained by a conventional set of reels or borders.

The symbols for this game are split into low-value, high-value and special symbols. The low-value symbols are the A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 in playing card royals. The higher paying symbols, on the other hand, comprise the axes, trolls, shields and elf princesses. These premiums are worth between 6 to 20x the stake. However, the most valuable regular symbol on the board is the King, who is worth 20x the bet for the top combination; he is also this game wild. He can replace any regular symbol on the board to help score more wins. If there is only one wild symbol on the reels, but it is part of a four or five of a kind wins, the wild is attributed with a multiplier value.
A re-spin then follows this mechanic, with all of the wilds on the board freezing to their positions. The other element of this game is that players need to look for gem symbols.

Collecting three of these increases the attached wild multiplier in stages of 2x, 3x, 5x and eventually 8x. If a new wild appears as a result of the re-spin and falls onto the middle reels, it too will lock in place and display a multiplier value as shown on the gem trail and add another spin to the tally. If a wild lands outside of the central reels, it will not lock or be given a multiplier.
The re-spins continue until no more gems or wilds land or if the top multiplier is reached – 512x the stake.

This game is a lot of fun, and although there is just one feature, its complex nature makes it feel much more valuable than a regular feature.
