Overview of Marching Legions
Marching Legions from the developers at Relax Gaming offers you the chance to don your heavy-soled hob-nailed military boots and take part in this Roman themed slot. As the slot would suggest there is a great deal of marching that goes on in this slot.
There is nothing to worry about though, as you do not have to undertake any physical activity it is just the little guys on the screen that have to perform any physical activity. However, it is worth pointing out that the slot can be hard work particularly during the base game which can feel to some as an endless parade drill, hang on though as the bonus game will pop up and when it does things can become rather intense and reward you with some solid wins provided the legions are victorious.
Design and Theme
The team at Relax Gaming have plumped for a cartoon look and the slot has a similar style to Rabcat’s Treasure Heroes or even ELK’s Micro Knights and it is not dissimilar to Relax Gaming’s Snake Arena. The similarities come from the view of the top of the game downwards and the smartphone style icons and characters used.
During the base game, the view you are presented with is an outdoor space with the 5-reels and 243 ways to win grid sitting in a courtyard positioned between to ancient Roman structures. To both sides of the slot are the paths where the legionaries’ line up ready to march but continue reading and this will soon become clear.
When it comes to placing your bet, you have a minimum bet of 10p per spin up to a maximum of £100 per spin and with this wide range the slot will appeal to all types of player. There are some impressive numbers on offer here too with the first being the return to player which is a colossal 98.12% but this does decrease when the feature buy is active but it only drops to 97.13% but this is still a very solid amount. The potential on offer in this game is high but the volatility is too, and the slot is probably most suited to those with an all of nothing mentality.
The symbols and their values play a far bigger part of influence on how the game pans out. The pay table boasts 7 pay symbols which have various values. At the end of the day though this slot comes down to the legionnaire symbol with the others simply filling in the gaps.
When it comes to the symbols you can expect to come across in ascending order, to start with there is the gold, blue and bronze tokens which are followed by a gladius, a wreath, the legionnaire, and a flag. Surprisingly, it is the flag that is the most valuable and will reward you with 3x your stake if you manage to land five of a kind. However, the legionnaire whilst only providing winnings of 2.5x your stake this is the most desirable symbol on offer, this is because it pays out wins when just two are landed at the same time, it can land as a stacked symbol and it is also ties into the features.
You will have noticed that there is no mention of a wild in this slot and this is because there is not one and it is a symbol that players will miss. With no wild it is the legionnaires who make up for it complete with the free spins, Marching re-spins, and Nudges.
If you get lucky and you land two or more partial legionnaire stacks there is a chance that you reels will be randomly nudged to provide full stacks, but if you already have a stack in view it is not possible to get a random nudge.
When you have landed a full stack of legionnaires whether organically, or via a nudge, you will activate the Marching Re-spins feature. The stacked legionnaires start marching from your 1st reel and then march one step to the left before each re-spin. If you land any more stacks the feature is extended. The re-spins are rewarded until all your stacks have left you game screen.
When the legionnaire stack marches from your reels your collection meter is partially filled and once you have filled all the five levels which equates to 330 stacks you will activate the free spins. The free spins start on wave 1 where you have one stack of legionnaires on your 5th reel.
With each new wave you undertake an extra stack is added this continues and can get to the final wave 5 and your grid is covered entirely by Legionnaire symbols. In order to progress to the next wave there is another meter which is filled with special horn symbols and these appear on your 5th reel with 3 required for you to level up, the free spins then come to an end when all of the legionnaire stacks have marched off the grid.
The final feature is the bonus buy option which comes at a cost of 120x your stake. This is a handy feature as it takes the base game out of play and you progress straight to the free spins round.
There is no doubt that Marching Legions will have you going through all your emotions as you experience something great and then find yourself screaming at your screen in total exasperation. Most slots have good and bad and this is no different, to begin with the whole game is set around one symbol, the legionnaire as the other symbols seem to just make up the numbers. You may find yourself wishing that you had a wild.
There are some great aspects to this slot, for starters there is the return to player which is one of the highest I think I have ever come across, even the lower RTP if you have used the buy in is higher than most. The win potential is another draw being 10,000x your stake and due to the low value symbols, you have a good chance of landing a full screen of legionaries and you will be paid out worth 607.5x.
When I tried this slot I found myself getting quite wound up particularly when I was waiting for the final legionnaire stack to drop off my reels, and I needed one or two more horns to activate the next wave. Marching Legions will provide you with a roller coaster of emotions but some great game play at the same time. For me, this slot would rate as a solid 7/10, it is an attractive game which will tantalise you, frustrate you, annoy you whilst also delighting you. It is up to you, give this slot a spin and find out for yourself.
