Introducing CherryPop slot

CherryPop is the third slot to be released from the independent games developers at Avatar UX and it features there expansive PopWins mechanic. The slot is available through Yggdrasil software once again with the first to in the Pop series being PopRocks and WildPops and both offered a distinctly Eastern feel in fact they channelled their inner Asian in these two. This slot returns to the classic fruit indulgence that offers a plethora of old school symbols and a grid that expands seriously and provides some superb free spin action. Better still though one thing this slot has in common with the first to is the massive win potential which all players want to see.

Design & Theme

CherryPop is the most commercialised game in this range to date, and this is made apparent by the overall look of this slot. There is a hot pink frame that surrounds the game screen which houses the 5-reels in width and 3-rows high or at least this is when the slot is in the default mode, but this is expandable once the features start to kick in. The background behind the game grid is a myriad of purple, pinks and blue in the blurry style that Avatar UX favours. Although the first thing that sprung to mind for me would be simple with a clean and sharp design. The soundtrack is the final element, and this is an electronic track that you would expect to hear at an 80s disco and contributes to create the ambience which is positive and fun.

Game Time

Once you are ready to play the first thing you need to do is choose the bet that you are comfortable playing with and this starts from a minimum of 20p per spin to a maximum of £40 per spin which is a bet range that will appeal to many different types of players. The statistics that the game offers standout and whilst the return to player is not brilliant it still comes in above average standing at 96.2%. The game play has a good pace, and this is enhanced further by the winning combinations that show up in 1 in 5 spins, although official figures state a hit rate of 22%. During the base game, the wins are modest and do not tend to be that high, but they are wins, all the same. The PopWins slots are known for being highly volatile and CherryPop most definitely is.

How to Win

When it comes to landing wins the first rule is that you need to land three or more matching symbols adjacent to one another from your 1st to your 5th reels. In the default mode there are technically 243 ways to win but this is doubled to 486 as the game pays both ways. Most designers would have left things here, but the developers at Avatar UX strive to go that bit further.

Pay Table

Before we head to the core of the slot, we can get a quick look at the pay table. CherryPop offers a total of 13 symbols, which does mean that the game screen can get quote crowded when landing smaller configurations. The low paying symbols are represented by the usual Royal playing cards in this case 10 through to the Ace. These are then followed by some stylish fruit symbols which include grapes, melons, oranges, horseshoes, clovers, bells, diamonds, and cherries. The non-royal paying symbols are worth up to 15x your stake if you land 5 cherries, but you should note that the cherries will only appear in pops or free spins.

Features

Whilst this slot can give the impression that it is an average however rather shiny classic fruit game, the features say something quite the opposite. As you will expect if you have played the first two slots in the series, central to the features is the PopWins function, this is then complemented by the free spins and bonus buy. Every win activates the PopWins feature and when this happens the winning symbols disappear from the screen and for every empty position two new ones will land, and because there are twice the number of symbols than before, the reels expand to house them all and this can reach up to 6 rows high in the base game. The new symbols make it possible to land consecutive wins and this action continues until there are no new wins landed and the reels will then re-set.

If you manage to get all five of you reels to expand to 6 rows high you will be rewarded with five free spins. But, before the bonus game begins you can gamble the spins on the Gamble Wheel feature. If you are successful with the gambles you can win up to 16 free spins or lose and move back to the main game with nothing.

The free spins are even better as they have a progressive win multiplier that starts at x2, for every PopWin you land the multiplier increases by +1 and there are no limits to how high this can go. PopWins also act as they do in the base game by expanding your reels, and the difference is that the reels can reach up to 9 high. When all your reels stand 9 high, the win multiplier is then boosted by +3 and each PopWin from there on in increases the multiplier by +4 rather than the previous +1. This equates to 59,049 ways to win on a 9-row grid, which is double when you take in the wins both ways. When you then land a spin with no win the reels revert to the normal height in accordance with the shortest reel rather than resetting completely.
There is one new feature that CherryPop offers and this comes in the form of a bonus buy, this will cost you 75x your stake and gives you instant access into the bonus described above.

Conclusion

If I were to compare CherryPop with the other two titles I would suggest this would sit between the other two. The first in the series was extremely volatile but it does have the highest potential. The other, WildPops is brutal and throws a random lifeline or two to keep the action up, whilst decreasing the potential. Then there is this slot CherryPop, which is more forgiving than the first offering but more brutal than WildPops. The base game that can be repetitive if you do not hit the free spins, plus the generic theme that really does not help. It is not all bad though as the slot is well designed and expertly executed. However, due to the buy in feature in CherryPop where players can avoid the base game, this may appeal more to the other two.

Whether you are going to be a fan of this slot comes down to how you rate the mechanic. The base game can get rather lacklustre as there is little going on, however, if you are patience the potential for long sequences of action can be super impressive. What adds to the mayhem is the expanding reels and win both ways feature and these are joyous. When it comes to the rewards there is a colossal 56,386x your stake possible, and when it comes to producing something new Avatar UX really have turned a classic fruit slot into something new. If you are looking for a slot with solid stats, unusual mechanics, simple game play and potential to win big then CherryPop could be the solid for you!
