Introduction Ice Joker slot
Play’N’Go have turned down the heat for this new slot of Ice Joker, in a brand-new Vegas style slot which is filled to the brim with symbols and classic gameplay. Imagine Vegas in the next Ice Age and you will reach the design of this slot where the studio has gone for an Artic angle, with the additional attempt of a sprinkle of novelty here and there.
We must admit, it is a little hard to get excited by another fruit-filled slot, but with the sticky wilds and spreading wilds, there is a little more excitement than the average slot.
Ice Joker uses the usual reel grid of 5 reels and 3 rows, which gives the player a total of 20 fixed pay lines. The reels themselves are set on a frozen lake, which are surrounded by angular mountain peaks, with the Arora Borealis – or Northern Lights to the rest of us – sparkles up above in the dark night’s sky. If you were expecting an escape from the freezing weather, this is not it, with the name of Ice Joker holding fast in the impressive ice graphics. While it is all a little blurry, the shimmering reels add an icy magic for the player. The ambient music in the background is a little disappointing, sounding more like the comedown tracks after a party, but really adds some appeal to the players.
Betting, RTP and volatility
The betting for this slot starts from as little as 20p per spin and increases to a maximum of £100 per spin. This is perfect as it allows players the opportunity to bet big and small without losing out on too much if the spins do not go their way. For their trials, the player will be awarded 1,000 times the bet for a screen full of lucky sevens – discussed more below; this rises to 3,000 times when the snowflakes align. This gives the player the grand total of £300,000 to be won. Not the most impressive we have to say, but it is a big reward for anyone starting out with slot machines.
Playable on all devices, there is a great RTP of 96.23%, well above the average we usually see. The slot also has an impressive medium volatility, and a modest potential which allows the smaller players to spin to win. Bigger betting players will probably choose to steer clear of this as there it is less hardcore and more of a basic math model.
Symbols on the reels here play from left to right, starting with the leftmost reel – this is the first reel. Matching three of the same symbol will create a winning combination for the player. There are seven, rather cliché, icons to play with. The low symbols consists of four different fruits. These are cherries, lemons, grapes, and plums. The remaining symbols are the high symbols: bars, stars, and lucky sevens. The higher paying symbols will pay between 5 and 50 times the stake when matching five of a kind.
Features to win with
All of the additional features in Ice Joker star a laughing icy woman, displayed in one form or another. The lesser of the features is the Frozen Free Spins, which are stretched further when the Winters Wonder Wheel becomes involved. Along with the symbols mentioned above, there is an Ice Joker symbol, which will only appear on the middle three reels. It acts as a wild and can be substituted for any of the normal symbols except for the snowflake scatter to make even more wins for the player. When this symbol lands on the reels, the player is awarded 3 Frozen Free Spins. The Ice Joker symbol expands by one position on each spin, as it is sticky. Once the entire reel has been filled, it is removed. It is possible for additional new Ice Jokers to land and give the player additional free spins. The maximum number of spins the player can get for free is 51.
The other special symbol is depicted as the snowflake and works as a scatter, appearing on the first, third and fifth reels. When three land on the reels, the Winters Wonder Wheel is unlocked, rotating to give the player between 2 and 7 Ice Jokers. During the round, if an Ice Joker lands, it will activate Frozen Free Spins. If no more land, then one of the Ice Jokers will be added to the grid. If no more land by the end of the spins, then another Joker is placed on the reels. When no additional jokers can be placed, the feature concludes. A total of 51 free spins can be awarded.
Concluding Ice Joker
There is not a whole lot more that can be added. Ice Joker does exactly what is says on the tin, in an acceptable manner. While it is not terrible, it isn’t the best slot we have ever seen. It is not bad enough to elicit grumbles from us, nor is it impressive enough that we will be jumping for joy at the gameplay. It feels as though this is something the developers at Play’N’Go could have created as they slept.
A large amount of the Return to Player is allocated to the base game of Frozen Spins, which means it is a little tricky to then trigger the bonus round. When snowflake scatters do land on the reels and eventually trigger, plenty of free spins are available for the player. The processes do occasionally feel like they drag when you wish they would just end. However the wins add up.
Concluding this slot, the Ice Joker is an average slot in a unique location that we have not seen in a while. If you are not big on the style, then Ice Joker is not one you will be hurrying back to.
