Overview of Lucky Neko: Gigablox

Lucky Neko: Gigablox is the latest slot from the Swedish developer Yggdrasil Gaming and unveils the second of their new features. First there was Splitz where the tiles in the game split into various symbols so that players could get more from their individual pay lines. In this Asian themed slot things take an opposite and not quote so subtle approach with the use of large symbols which draw in more pay lines. If you are ready to give this incredible new slot a go then read on.

Theme and Meaning

To begin with we need to decipher who Neko is? Neko refers to the waving cats that are often seen in shop windows in Asia, more particularly in Japan where they believe that the waving cat will bring them luck. This slot is therefore based in Japan and this is made obvious by the Japanese voice-overs that you will hear every now and again plus the perfectly arranged game.
You will also see an abundance of Daruma dolls on your pay table and reels. Daruma dolls are hollow, round dolls which are found in Japan and modelled on the creator of Zen Buddhism, Bodhidharma. One thing you will be able to tell straight away is that the developers have planned Lucky Neko meticulously and this slot is somewhat of a cultural feast.

Game Mechanics

There is even more evidence that the slot is welled planned by the aesthetics which really are sublime. The slot plays out over a 6-reel, 4-row grid with the symbols grid packaged in what looks like a stapled box of sushi. You will find the reels amidst a charming shop with Japanese collectable pieces and you will notice that the entire screen shakes as the enormous Daruma symbols make their way through. There is a soothing Asian soundtrack that plays in the background which add to the ambience and provides a truly relaxing effect.

Game Statistics & Bets

When you are in the base game you will have 40 pay lines in play and here is where you need to land three or more of the same symbols to create a win. However, before you can do this you need to place your bet. The bets start at a minimum of just 8p per spin and up to a maximum of £100 per spin, making this ideal for all types of players. The slot offers a solid return to player that stands at 96.4%, however the hit frequency is rather low at just 15.45%, it is not all bad though at the volatility stand in the medium to high range.

When it comes to the symbols the regulars are made up of the card suits clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades and these have been designed beautiful and look as though they are miniature screens. You can expect to come across the Darumas as they make up the high paying symbols and there are four to choose from, green, yellow, pink, and purple. The pink doll is the most valuable and will pay out 8x your stake when you land six of a kind with the others following. The last symbol is the gold wild which can substitute for all the symbols to create winning combinations and it is from here that the reel shaking features can happen.

Lucky Neko: Gigablox: Features

As Lucky Neko is the first slot to ever use the new Gigablox feature, it would only be right to start there. There is a little similarity between this slot and Splitz as it also involves multiple symbols morphing into one. How this works in this slot is that a minimum of one set of synced reels will appear on every spin to create blocks of big symbols and one the synced reels Gigablox can appear as 2x, 3x3 or 4x4 sizes and you can land more than one synced reel on each spin.

Next are the free spins which can change almost all parts of the game and this round is activated when you land at least five of the scatter symbols anywhere in view on your reels. The number of scatters that are in view are the number of free spins that you will be rewarded. The slot changes dynamic in the free spins as the number of rows are doubled up to eight and the pay lines increase to 85.

The Gigablox symbols also grow and it is possible to land then in 5x5 or 6x6 which makes way for more symbols on the table. Finally, before the free spins get underway one of your pay symbols is selected at random to become the special Blessed Symbol, and during the free spins this symbol will pay out it value multiplied by five which makes the highest paying Daruma (pink) worth 40x when you land six.

Lucky Neko: Gigablox: Final thoughts

After playing this new Gigablox feature it was not quite what I expected particularly as when Yggdrasil introduced mega symbol in the fabulous Gem Rocks it was everything and a bit more! Do not let this put you off though as this is a great slot to play. If I were to compare this with the Splitz mechanic this is more effective and straightforward which is always a plus!

When a huge block drops from above and smothers the grid it is the greatest moment especially if it is the Blessed symbol complete with the 5x multiplier, there is no doubt that this definitely gets the blood pumping and it that is not enough, remember that the scatters and wilds can appear in Gigablox form. You will land some solid wins with this slot and when it comes to potential the developers have stated that there are wins of up to 6,953x your stake possible, and although this may not be a huge amount it is a really nice win if it comes your way.

I really enjoyed playing this game and there is no doubt that the developers at Yggdrasil Gaming have created a totally unique Asian styled slot. The visuals are beautiful, and the setting of the shop is superb. The Darumas have been put to really good use in this slot and are not just lost in the background which is a great change. Once I had played Lucky Neko I felt that I had experienced a new slot and one that I have never seen before with the Far East transformed to lie within the slot theme and overall game mechanics perfectly.
