Overview of Milky Ways slot
Milky Ways is the brand-new intergalactic slot from the developers at Nolimit City. The slot is expertly executed but with all slots of this genre you cannot help but make comparisons to the hugely successful Starburst from NetEnt. Whilst different in its own way this slot does appear similar with regards to the soothing soundtrack and vibrant colour scheme, however I am pleased to confirm that Milky Ways can certainly hold its own with other slots of this genre.
Theme and Design
Once you start to look more closely at Milky Ways you will see that there has some real style input when it comes to the visuals. Asteroids drift across the galaxy on the solar winds as they make their way around your game screen. In the middle of the game screen is a black hole that appears to have a halo surrounding it. This is all finished off with a fitting soundtrack that is what you would expect to hear from Martians having a jamming session! As strange as the music is it is the perfect accompaniment to this fabulous slot.
Game Play and Statistics
When it comes to the bet range on offer the minimum is just 20p per spin going up to £100 per spin, making this a great slot for all types of players. The return to player has a decent default setting that is a solid 96.14% but this can be as low as 94.24% therefore this is something that you need to check before playing. The slot rates 8/10 when it comes to volatility which combines to give players a hit rate of 33.2% so theoretically wins should land frequently.
The slot plays out over 5-reels, 3-rows, and offers 243 ways to win, with winning combinations consisting of three or more of the same symbols, and these land from left to right starting with the first reel.
The symbols that you can expect to come across in Milky Ways start with the lower symbols being a mix of the usual playing card symbols Jack through to Ace and these are followed by gems of various colours including blue, yellow, green and red. The values of the symbols are relatively low when compared to other slots, for example landing five red gems will award a maximum pay out of 2.5x your stake.
When it comes to the features you will immediately be able to see that Milky Way is not anything like Starburst even if you first thought it was. There are three features on offer these being Solar Wilds, Fusion Spins and Milky Way Spins.
The Solar Wilds which can appear on your 2nd, 3rd and 4th reels and the wilds can substitute for all the symbols apart from the scatter to create winning combinations. reels 2, 3, or 4, substituting for anything except the scatter. The Solar Wilds are also complete with multipliers that range from 1x up to 3x and these are multiplied if you are lucky enough to land more than the Solar Wild feature.
You can unlock the bonus game by landing three of the Milky Ways scatters on your middle reels. Once these are landed you are immediately rewarded with 3 free spins. In this feature you will see that there are two rows added to provide you with a 5x5 reel set which provides you with the chance to land win 3,125 ways. Every Milky Ways spin is guaranteed to include two solar wilds on any of the middle three reels and if you land another scatter an additional spin is provided.
Whenever you land a win when in the Milky Ways Spin, you will activate a Fusion Spin. The Fusion Spin locks the winning symbols in place and rewards you with a re-spin. Any new win symbols you land will also be locked, and the re-spins continue until there are no winners landed.
Theoretically the bonus round will activate on one in every sixty-six spins and as so you will not be waiting too long for them to turn up. However, if you cannot wait there is a Nolimit Bonus Buy feature which allows you to completely miss out the base game. For this benefit you need to pay 38x your stake, but you are guaranteed to land three scatters on your next spin.
Milky Ways shows how versatile the developers at Nolimit City are, and this slot continues the company’s expansion into this less volatile market. Although I made a comparison to Starburst from NetEnt the two slots are only comparable by the gems and the intergalactic settings as Milky Ways offers a totally different gaming experience. Milky Ways is a great indicator on how far the developers have developed of you compare this to other slots such as Space Arcade and Wixx.
The visuals are one of the highlights of this slot as well as the soundtrack which although strange fits. When it comes to the gameplay this is a highly entertaining slot, but it does not offer the high intensity that many players may be looking for. I did experience a few moments where my heart was in my mouth which made for more exciting game play.
If I had to highlight any negatives, I would say that the slot can get a little repetitive, but this is really to be expected with this type of game. The low symbols value is disappointing, but this is made up by the wins of 5,664x your bet being available. The best way I could describe my game play is a fun slot that provides sharp bursts with the climax coming from the Milky Ways Spins/Fusion Spins feature. The best thing is that I did not have to wait long for the wins to start landing thanks to the generous hit frequency, or the low cost to buy.
Regardless of want you may think about this slot there is no doubt that the developers at Nolimit City can certainly provide the whole package. Their range is widening, and the visual and audio teams are getting better with every slot that they release. There are ups and downs with this slot but the decent potential makes it worth a spin or two.
