Primal Hunt

Primal Hunt from the developers at Betsoft invite you to embark on a journey that sees you taken into a lion’s den where it is waiting for its next prey which could be you! It is difficult to think how people would have lived in pre-historic times where the only things that told a tale were the cave drawings which revealed little apart from the lack of artistic skills! Fortunately, the team at Betsoft have exceptional talent when it comes to creating slots that are design fuelled.

Theme, Design & Statistics

When it comes to the visuals and audio the developers have done well, particularly the audio soundtrack which I believe will be received well by all. Unfortunately, the 3D presentation is not of the usual high standard you would expect from Betsoft with it being obvious they felt the need to tone things down a bit for this release. If I had to advise the developers of anything, I would tell them that the symbols in the game should be static and not wobbly as this can get rather annoying after a while.
The slot plays out over 5-reels which are partially see through, 4-rows and 80 fixed pay lines, and the reels are set within a dimly lit cave. When it comes to volatility the developers have added their own rating which is medium to high but this is traded off with the decent win on offer of up to 4,420x your stake which makes up for things.

Game Play & Symbols

True to form, Betsoft provides a suitable outer for their game interface, and therefore it blends in with the backdrop do well. To the left of the game you will find the menu which drops and provides four different menus to choose to manage your game experience. The settings menu is the first that opens, and from here you can turn the background music and sound effects on or off, and you can also activate the Turbo play from here which will see the reels spinning faster.
Next is the pay table where all the features are illustrated and described and you can see how much the symbols are worth, the pay table displays the values according to your chosen bet. In this slot you will come across 11 symbols 8 of which are lower valued and 3 higher values.

The most valuable symbols are the primitive spear, the axe and the cave lion head. These symbols will pay you between 10x and 2.5x, whilst the lower symbols which are made up from the usual playing card symbols and the stone tablets decorated with animals and will pay out from 0.4x and 1.5x your stake.
To land a win you need to land three or more of the same symbols on a pay line starting from the far left to the right, however you only need to land two if the cave lion symbols to be rewarded with a small win. There is a tab which explains the rules of the slot fully and what the different buttons and symbols are explained in full.

Betting & Prizes

Before you begin playing you need to decide on the bet level you are comfortable playing with, and you can use the arrows that are located below your reels to adjust the stake. You can bet from a minimum of 20p per spin up to a maximum of £22 per spin.
If you decide to use the auto spin function you can set spins up from 5 to 100 and you will see the cost of the spins shown below. Unlike other slots you need to manually stop the auto spin function as there is no stop feature or win/loss limits available to set. Primal Hunt can be played on all devices and the slot plays smoothly on all.

Features

When it comes to both the math model and bonus features there is nothing that makes the slot stand out, and although it is run of the mill in many ways you will come across stacked wilds in the base game as well as a bonus feature that provides 2x and 3x multiplier wild stacks. These wilds will only land on your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, reels and they can multiply with each other to provide you with a reward of up to 4,420x your stake. I found that the wilds tended to land in stacks most of the time and the cave lion symbol also lands stacked over two or three symbols high. You will soon notice that landing stacked symbols is easy however the lion will only land as a single symbol.

The scatter in this slot is depicted by a sabre-toothed lion with a full moon set behind it, and if you land three or more you will activate the free spins bonus that this slot offers. Before the feature begins you are rewarded with a scatter win. If you land 5 scatters the reward is 96x your win and 20 free spins, 4 scatters provide 16x your win and 12 free spins and 3 scatters will pay you 8x your win and 8 free spins.

The wilds need to still land on your middle reels in the bonus round, however these come with a 2x or 3x multiplier attached, and the multipliers multiply together when you land 1 or more multiplier wilds in your winning combination.

Conclusion

For me, the only thing I do not quite get is that the symbols wobble every time that they land, there is no need for it and it does not add anything to the slot, but this is really only a minor detail but it is something that could see players choosing an alternative competitor slot.

When I trialled the slot, I chose to bet £0.70 per spin and played 200 spins. The spins were uneventful until I came to the last 35 and this was when the action started for me. I landed a win of 8.4x my stake from landing 2 stacks of wilds on my 2nd and 3rd reels and this was swiftly followed by a large win of 28x my bet. The final spins yielded more wins and I am happy to say that this is one slot I will be revisiting soon.
