Introducing - The Demon Code slot

The Demon Code is the new release from the slot developers SG Digital partner NextGen Gaming and if you were wondering this is not a slot version of the novel by Adam Blake. There is no doubt that this is one of the darkest topics that you could think of and as, so it is packed with supernatural images and full of demons. Due to this mix, the developer has been provided with the opportunity to integrate some superb features with the theme using crisp animations and plenty of atmospheric effects.

Theme & Design

This slot does not immediately hit you, however, the free slot is beautifully created and has a steady charm that draws you in. The slot is set within a dark and creepy dungeon, like an underground cave where under hand activities are ongoing and take place on the slot’s 6x6 grid which is covered with wicked creatures. Not only will you see these creatures lining the sides of the grid and making their presence known in many of the features that are on offer to. The accompanying soundtrack fits perfectly and reminded me of the music that was used in the 19th century Sherlock Holmes where the main character was played by the great actor Robert Downey Junior.

Symbols

There are 8 regular symbols in play, 4 low payers and 4 high payers. The lower value symbols comprise of four diamond shaped symbols whist the higher paying symbols are created in the form of orbs and gems. The higher paying clusters are created using 25+ identical symbols, which range in value from 10x to 50x the stake, you will also find that the wild is a great addition here too as it can substitute for any of the pay symbols to create winning combinations.

Betting & Winnings

Before you can get fully immersed in the slot you need to choose the stake that you are comfortable playing with and this ranges from 10p per spin up to a maximum of £20 per spin. The slot can be played on any device which is great as it means that players have the freedom to play wherever they are and whenever they choose. When it comes to the return to player this has been set at 96.26% which is average, and the volatility sits at the high end of the scale. Unfortunately, the hit rate was not available when I tested the slot, but I did find that the wins were frequent although they were a little on the low side.
Wins are created by landing four or more of the same symbols connect vertically or horizontally. The winning clusters are then removed from the grid, to make way for new symbols to fall and fill the gaps giving even more chances to land wins. The clusters also carry a win multiplier which begins at x1 and then increases by +1 when additional winning clusters occur, or the Enter the Void feature is activated. The win multiplier can increase indefinitely but this does re-set on every new spin.

Features

There are quite a few features on offer in the Demon Code and these include a variety of modifiers and an active set of free spins. I will begin the features by looking at the four talisman symbols which you will find appear at random on cascades and when they do, they can trigger one of the Demon Summon features.
The first is the green demon Ancient Alchemy and this will add mystery symbols that then turn into the same matching symbols. Next is the blue demon Cryptic Chaos where a random symbol is selected and will then this symbol will pay from anywhere on your board. The purple demon Dark Design adds wilds to the grid and the red demon Fiery Fusion randomly rewards you with 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5 blocks of the same matching symbols. When a cascade occurs where there are no winners, but you have a wild on your screen the Enter the Void feature becomes active. The wild symbols will then vanish taking the pay symbols next to them away to allow more symbols to drop to give you a better chance at landing some wins.
The scatter is represented by a sinister eye symbol and whenever you land a scatter it will be collected in the meter that is shown above your game grid. When you collect four or more scatters in a cascade sequence you will activate the free game bonus and be rewarded with 10 free spins. If there are more than 4 scatters in the sequence for each additional scatter there is 2 free spins added to the total.

Whilst playing the free spin feature the scatters collect in the same way, so wherever you land 4 scatter you are rewarded with 2 additional free spins. However, this gets better as one extra row is added to your grid up to the maximum of 12. If your reel set reaches this height the meter is removed, and you get a further 10 free spins. Every scatter that lands after the meter has been removed automatically adds 2 additional free spins.
Finally, the win multiplier does not re-set during the free spins and there is no limit on how high this can get to, whenever there are four scatters collected on the meter the win multiplier goes up by one.

Final Thoughts

The Demon Code is a great production that has been well thought out. There is a mix of features that show up quite a lot in the base game to keep things interesting and your motivational level high. The cinematic sound track and slick animations sync perfectly with the action on the reels. As you may expect the game really gets going in the free spin feature with the win multiplier not re-setting and the way the scatters work out. I am pleased to say that when I tested the game, I landed numerous expanding reels and extra free spins.
I landed some solid wins and although I think the potential of 12,500x my stake was optimistic you could just get lucky. When it comes to the wins though I landed 30x multipliers quite frequently and if this were then combined with 25+ red orbs you could land 1,500x quite easily.

I would rate the Demon Code as a solid 9/10 as it really does do what it said, admittedly it did not have the clout that Rise of the Mountain King did when it first came out but credit to the developers all the same as they have done a really good job when it comes to the aesthetics, and the super features. There were times that I was frustrated, and I did feel as though I was chasing myself round. The entertainment level is high as are the rewards provided you are patience and luck is on your side.
