Xmas Magic from the developers at Play ‘n’ Go have obviously been very busy this year with anything but designing this Christmas slot. Whilst a cracking theme the slot lacks in inspiration and could even be accused of being thrown together in a rather sloppy fashion. Obviously when Christmas is the theme it is hard to avoid clichés but they could have tried to brainstorm and think out of the box and if this isn’t bad enough the slot could be accused of being a clone, a literal reskin of Happy Halloween which was released in 2015 the only real difference being the pumpkin and witches have changed into snowmen and candy canes!

Rather than taking my word for it give the slot ago as everyone likes different things. This is a highly volatile offering which is played out over 5-reels, 4-rows and offers a total of 50 pay lines that can be adjusted. The return to player comes out at 96.5% which to be fair is a good rate. The slot can be played on all devices giving you the freedom to lay whenever and wherever you are, and the bet range starts from just 0.01 to £100 per spin, making it the perfect game for every players budget.

Design, Theme and Symbols

Unsurprisingly, the design and theme revolve around Christmas and to be fair although I know that Play ‘n’ Go can offer a lot better generally the slot provides what you would expect from any Christmas slot, however I found the game very unappealing and something that I would have expected the developers to release about 15 years ago! This being said, the townhouse complete with snowy mountains is cheerful and the symbols are well designed.

The playing card symbols nine through to Ace make up the lower paying symbols with snow globes, hot cocoa, candy canes, and stockings. The highest paying symbol is the mistletoe, and this can also appear stacked four high, land five on a pay line and you will reward with a cool 20x your stake. The wild in this slot is the gold gift box and it can only land on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th reels, but it can also substitute for all other symbols with the exception of the scatter to create winning combinations.

Features

If you are au fait with the first version, you will understand that the whole slot centres around the free spin feature. Before you can activate the feature, you have to land at least three of the Santa scatters on your first three reels and this will award you with ten free spins.

The mistletoe will always appear stacked and once you activate the free spins there is another premium symbol which is randomly chosen and will appear in stacks of four during the feature. On every free spin there are two new wilds which are added to reels 2 – 5 and these wilds sit elongated onto existing wild symbols on each reel and really increase the chances of you creating winning combinations. Landing a re-trigger is the way to win big as this will see you awarded and additional 10 free spins that can reactivate again through any of your spins and gives you the chance to not only win 20 re-spina but with the growing stacks of wilds  which spell a maximum possible win of 4,000 times your stake.

The End

The original response to this slot was reasonably positive and it was in demand for some time at least until 2017. However, with the changes in slots to keep up with todays markets it is no surprise this may seem dated. There is a good side though as the majority of players that are going to play Xmas Magic it will appear as a new fresh Christmas slot. For me it is dates, dull and there are far more Christmas slots available which are far more appealing in my opinion.
