Created by the relatively new designer Hacksaw Gaming, this novel cluster pays slot takes us to a fertile fruit and veg patch where all sorts of produce are grown. The King Carrot is the most powerful and valuable of these natural products (at least in this game). Mechanically, this is a seven-by-seven grid game with an RTP of 96.03% and a maximum available win of 10,000x the stake. We have to say that the cute cartoon fruits and veg are particularly satisfying to pop and manoeuvre around the board. This game is similar to Candy Crush, just with different icons.

The features included in this game start with the influence of the special King Carrot and Epic King Carrot icons. When a King Carrot lands, a regular random symbol is selected to be replaced. All iterations of this symbol are instantly transformed into the highest value icon for one spin. The Epic King Carrot feature is similar to this, but it also incorporates a multiplier value that can grow depending on your luck. There is also a Bird Attack feature, a Carrot Carnage bonus, and a bonus buy option. All features will be explained in more detail later on in the review.

Theme and Symbols

The theme of this game is a cartoon fruit and veg motif that is simple yet satisfying and actually rather addictive. We aren't sure if it's the range of emotions plastered on the little faces of the fruit icons or the peaceful pastoral setting in which this game is set, but when you open the game, you are almost immediately encouraged to relax. You can feel your shoulders dropping when you start to play this game in a way that many other slots don't manage. Although it isn't necessarily the job of a slot game to relax you, it is a pleasant surprise to find one with such a calming effect.

The background for this game, as mentioned, is a countryside scene of rolling hills, green pastures, gnarled oaks and meadows of wildflowers. The image reminds one of an Irish rural county, with green as far as the eye can see. The main visual draws here are the two bushy and vivid oak trees that stand to the board's left and right, their boughs soaking up the generous sun's rays on a perfect summer day.

The playing board for this game is a translucent collection of blue blocks that hold the symbols.
The icons for this game are all the various fruit and vegetable characters. The lower-value symbols here are the raspberry, pear, purple fruit and strawberry—these payout at 5x the stake for a cluster of 14 or more. On the other hand, the higher value symbols are the blueberry, lemon, apple, watermelon, and goofy looking carrot. The carrot is the most valuable regular symbol paying out at 500x the stake for the top combination. There are four special symbols in this game. King Carrot is played on a 7-reel, 7-row cluster pays grid. To win combinations, players need to land clusters of five or more matching symbols that are either vertically or horizontally aligned.

The first feature in this game is called the King Carrot feature. It is activated when a King Carrot symbol land on the board. When this happens, a random paying symbol is selected to be replaced. All iterations of the symbol are then transformed into the most valuable symbol in the game. A win calculation then takes place. If multiple of these special King Carrot symbols fall onto the board at once, then more than one symbol will be selected to transform. Every spin that lands a King Carrot, a new re-spin will be added.

The next feature is the Epic King Carrot bonus, which can sometimes come into play as a result of a transformation. If it does, between 1 and 3 Epic King Carrots will fall onto the board to replace existing symbols in the transformation. For each special icon that comes into view, a random multiplier is attached to a carrot symbol, helping boost any win they are part of. If multiple multiplier carrots form part of a win, then the multiplier values are added together.
Next on the feature list is the Bird Attack bonus. This bonus is activated completely at random. When it is, a flock of birds swoop over the reels and remove a collection of symbols from the board, making way for new symbols to come in. Special symbols, however, are not removed as part of this process.

The Carrot Carnage feature is triggered when three or more FS symbols are landed. This awards ten free spins. All symbols transformed by the King Carrot also remain changed for the duration of the feature.

Conclusion

Despite our first impressions, King Carrot was a lot of fun and a satisfying game that got more interesting as we played it. The features add plenty of layers, the win potential isn't half bad, and the RTP is also promising. We would say that Hacksaw Gaming has done an excellent job here.
