Introducing Kings of Gold
Kings of Gold is the latest slot to be released from the developers at iSoftBet. This slot proves that the company are not all about Asian games or Megaways, as this new slot is based around Ancient Egypt, and due to using such a common theme the developers needed to come up with something different in order to distinguish themselves from the competition, unfortunately they have not managed to create a slot that is totally unique and therefore you may find many similarities with those of their competition.
Theme & Outlook
One of the major highlights of this slot is the theme and design with the background showing the Pyramids nestling in the desert sands which is all very well executed. The reels are surrounded by the River Nile, some sand dunes and a man on a camel who appears to be surveying the scene. The overall aesthetics are good however, there is nothing again that is unique. The soundtrack has been created from a standard exotic Arabic beat which is like that used in other slots. Overall, the slot is pleasing if a little basic and predictable.
Game Statistics & Symbols
Kings of Gold is played out on five reels with 25 pay lines and can be played on all devices giving you the freedom to play wherever and whenever you choose. When it comes to placing your bet, the stakes start from a minimum of 25p per spin to a maximum of £25 per spin. Under the shiny exterior the return to player is a little disappointing standing at just 95.14% which is rather below average and for whatever reason it seems that this developer chooses to produce slots with a lower average. The volatility sits between medium and high and like a lot of slots the statistics are not as pleasing as one would like.
The pay lines in this slot are fixed at 25, which means that you have no option but to have all lines in play at any one time. When it comes to the symbols there are eight, and these are shown in the pay table and consist of the usual low paying card Royals Jack through to Ace and these are followed by the higher paying symbols which are represented by cat statues, ankhs, a chest of gold and winged scarabs. The four higher paying symbols are worth between 6x to 18x your stake if you manage to land five in a line.
The Pharaoh is the wild in this game and will certainly help you to land the wins as he can replace all the other symbols apart from the bonus or the gold coins to create winning combinations. The wild can land stacked three in height and are the most valuable symbols in the game paying you 20x your total bet if you land a line of five.
When it comes to the features offered by this slot in the base game you need to keep your eyes open for the gold coin which will display a cash value. If you land five or more of the gold coins in any positions on your screen this will activate the Pharaoh Gold Re-spins. The play then shifts to a grid where only gold coins, Pharaoh symbols or blank spaces. The coins that activated the feature then lock into position on the reels and the bonus begins with three re-spins. Every time a new coin lands it is held in the position and this sets the re-spins back to the original three. Whilst playing in this mode the symbol you really want to see is the Golden Pharaoh as landing one of these will remove the coins from the reels, but you do get to collect all their values. This also frees up some valuable space for more coins to drop potentially giving you even more rewards. If you completely fill all the positions with symbols or run out of re-spins the feature will end and all the collective values of then paid out.
The final feature in Kings of Gold is the free spins which are activated when you land three or more of the scatters in view on your game screen. The scatter is represented by the pyramid and will only appear on your first, third, and fifth reels and will reward you with eight free spins. On each of your free spins two to five of your reels will synchronise thus displaying the same matching symbols and with any luck you will get plenty of syncing because unfortunately the free spins cannot be reactivated and you cannot win re-spins from them either.
The previous slot from the developers at iSoftBet had a Hold & Win feature which was rather unusual and though this was not the best slot they have created it did offer you two of three things that were created and different. Kings of Gold does not have anything unique, however, this does not make the gaming or features disappointing, and the theme is fresh and different to the numerous Egyptian slots that are currently available to play.
During the features there are some extremely entertaining moments with the animations overall being good. The only disappointing part of this slot for me was the lower than average return to player rating and this could be what stops this slot from being as successful as its predecessors. If I am honest the slot did make me feel as though I was playing on autopilot and it is a great shame that the developers did not provide an enhanced Hold & Win feature as this would have benefited the slot greatly. Fans of Egyptian themed slots will find the game interesting however as a regular game the slot may not stand up against the competition.
Saying this I really enjoyed playing this slot as I could relax and enjoy the gameplay without having to put that much effort into things apart from collecting my wins which although frequent may not see me rushing back to play some more. My rating for this slot would be 6.5/10 and whilst I would recommend you give it a go it is certainly not the most endearing slot that you may come across.
