Introducing Twin Spin Megaways slot
2020 marks a landmark for the developers at NetEnt as it sees the first in-house Megaways slot. Although there are many NetEnt titles that have been given a Megaways make over such as the fabulous and noteworthy Gonzo’s Quest Megaways the make overs have always been undertaken by NetEnt’s partner studio Red Tiger. NetEnt have decided to make history and taken one of their most popular slots Twin Spin, as the chosen one!
Players that are au fait with NetEnt and their games will be pleased to know that this slot has absolutely nothing to do with Twin Spin Deluxe which if I am true was a little bit of a damp squid, and one that NetEnt learnt a lesson from. The developers have had even more pressure piled on them from Big Time Gaming who acquired the Megaways license when they took over Red Tiger. However, by adding these versatile mechanics to an old game plus be brave and make everything large and this is exactly what NetEnt are offering in this new slot.
Theme & Design
The new Megaways partnership is obvious the minute that the slot loads. The reels are bursting with glitz and glamour even though the rest of the slot will be familiar to those who have played the original slot Twin Spin. In the backdrop is the same “going to light speed” hanging behind the 6-reels to provide an old, styled club with the funky soundtrack complete with a whole horn section to create the disco 70s vibe. The developers have had the sense to use a lot from the original slot so that players are not overwhelmed with newness, and this is also true for the visual aesthetics and the way in which they have perfectly incorporated the Megaways engine.
Bets & Winnings
Twin Spin Megaways can be played on all devices and offers a wide range of bets that start from a minimum of 10p per spin up to £200 per spin, due to the bet range this is a slot that will appeal to a wide audience. During the base game you can expect anything from 2 – 7 symbols to populate your reels and this number varies with each spin producing a colossal 117,649 ways to win.
The statistics are similar in some ways in this new version of the old game but hugely different in others. The return to player has not changed too much standing at 96.04% it is a little lower, however it is the volatility that is now as high as it gets! The other major change is the maximum win which we will look at more in depth below.
When it comes to the symbols the same symbols are used, with the usual playing cards 9 through to Ace as the 5 lower payers and the 5-premium symbols consist of cherries, bells, bars, 7s and diamonds. The value of the pay outs has fallen but this is to compensate for the avalanche/Megaways feature that is on offer, and as such you will be rewarded with 1x – 10x your stake when you land six of a kind.
Twin Spin Megaways has far more features to offer when compared to the original slot and you will be party to a twin reel feature, free spins, avalanches, and multiplier wilds. In the same way as in other Megaways slots for every win you create the avalanche feature launches to clear the symbols from the reels to allow new ones to drop down into the empty positions, and all the time new wins are created the avalanches keep happening.
At the beginning of every spin two or more adjacent reels are chosen at random to act as the Twin reels. The twin reels are identical and even include identical synchronized symbols, however if they are part of an avalanche different symbols will fall into their place. The twin reel feature can be activated in both the bonus and base game.
I would say that the biggest change is that this slot offers free spins which you can activate when you land 5 of the scatter symbol on you reels and when you do you will be rewarded with 15 free spins. For every additional scatter you land in view you will be rewarded with a further free spin. There are two major benefits that you can look forward to are when your reels contain 7 symbols in height and the wild multipliers will then come out to play! The wild multipliers offer a x2 or x3 multipliers and when either is used in a win the number of winning symbol occurrences on the reel will increase by 2 or 3, respectively. The bonus can also be extended by a further 15 free spins if you land a further 5 scatters in the feature.
It is true to say that Twin Spin Deluxe paled in significance when it comes to this new slot and this is probably one reason why the developers withdrew the slot from the market and it is possibly one of the factors that fuelled this updated version of the well crafted Twin Spin which goes off in a totally different direction and everything in the slot has grown including the game play, reels, and potential which is sure to make this slot far more appealing to a wide audience of players.
The new features that this slot offers may not come into play as regularly as you may like, particularly the free spins as I found these difficult to activate. However, due to the potential which could you provide you with a win worth 1,080x coupled with the illusive free spins and you could just win 10,000x your stake and this is something that just might happen.
I think the only part of the slot that concerned me was the classic game play which is no longer part of this slot and there will be some players who will mourn the loss of the beloved game whereas others will celebrate this modernised offering. This updated title is far more polished and scaled down slightly to accommodate lovers of the old-style game and in my opinion this slot is expertly executed and provides a smooth way from the first spin to the last. Overall, I see no reason why this slot will not be a huge hit like the original slot and although it has a modern twist this is merely a step further forward in the slot evolution. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this slot and would give it a rating of 7.5/10 and advise you give it a go.
