Slingo is popular within the online gaming community. As the name suggests, it’s a hybrid of classic slots and bingo.

As with bingo, players need to complete lines and boards, however, the numbers are chosen by a set of slot reels which sit just under the board.

The main difference from bingo is that there are a number of symbols that can appear mid-spin to win more money, free spins.

History of Slingo

Slingo can trace its roots back to 1996 when it debuted on AOL. It was created by Sal Falciglia Sr., a real estate developer from New Jersey.

Over two decades later, it is one of the most popular games within the online gaming community. The Slingo company was bought for almost $16 million in 2013 before being sold to Gaming Realms in 2015.

Since then, it has been developed to become one of the most popular games across online gaming sites.

How do you play Slingo?

Once you’ve opened the game and set your stake, you spin the reels as you usually would. Then, as the numbers come up, you can look to see if they are on your board. Your board consists of a 5×5 grid filled with numbers. Below the grid is a traditional-looking set of slot reels which are always in view.

Look out for the special Slingo symbols which can award free spins, instant cash prizes and bonuses

You’ll be awarded a number of spins depending on your original stake (the higher the stake the more spins) which must need to be completed against the clock.  There are options to purchase extra spins during the game.

While one of the aims of the game is to complete the numbers on your grid, that is not all. Slingo also accumulates game points. Each spin awards a number of points. You also receive extra points for completing lines, boards or for certain symbols.

The game combines the anticipation of matching the numbers on the bingo card alongside the prospect of winning instant cash prizes when the special symbols appear.

Guide to Slingo symbols

In addition to numbers, the Slingo reels can also produce a number of symbols including:

Joker – this is considered a wild and can tick off a number in the column above it

Super Joker – a wild that can tick off a number at any position on the grid

Spinning three or more Jokers or Super Jokers will result in a cash prize.

Coin – instant money win

Free spinplayers will receive one free spin

Devil – this symbol block number matches on the screen

Some themed versions of Slingo may substitute different symbols to fit in with the game, but they are essentially doing the same thing. Familiarise yourself with the symbols before you start your gameplay.

Styles of Slingo games

There are many themed versions of the classic Sling game, these include the popular Rainbow riches, Slingo Reveal, Monopoly Slingo, Slingo Centurion and Slingo XXtreme. Different themes are available on different sites. The general game structure is the same but with some thematic changes to match the visual style of the particular game.

What is the difference between slots and bingo?

While there are traditional elements of both slots and bingo, the game is a true hybrid of both. Though the board looks like a typical bingo game, and the ultimate aim is the same, the presence of slot reels and other symbols add a slots element to the game.

Do the reels relate to the entire board?

No, the numbers on each slot reel only relate to the column directly above them. They only exception to this is when a Super Joker appears, which can be used on a number anywhere else on the board.

What are the minimum and maximum stake amounts?

Depending on which gaming site you use, the minimum stake can be as little as 10p and a maximum of £200 per game.

Can you practice Slingo anywhere?

Many sites have a demo mode, where you can get familiarised with the game and its nuances. Once you’re confident, you can move on to the real thing to play for real money.

What is the RTP on Slingo?

Depending on the particular game and platform, RTP on Slingo ranges from 89.5% - 95.6%. The majority of Slingo games are listed as 95%. Check the RTP on the site before your play. The variance level is medium.
