Wolf Saga is the latest slot from the developers at 3 Oaks Gaming and brings to life a stunning wildlife theme. Although the slot is not that original when it comes to the story it is based upon, there is a mix of excellent features that are more than enough to make the slot interesting. There are areas of the slot that could have been improved however overall, I would say that not only is the slot expertly executed but it reaches a level that will see it gather a good following.

Theme & Symbols

The wildlife theme and design are quite common and takes players to the forest located within North America, and there are various popular creatures that can be found there. The Full moon and Huntress are the games scatters, and the wild is the main character, the Wolf. There are other symbols with the usual four Royal playing card symbols as well as a Moose, Owl, Lynx and White Rabbit.

Wolf Saga plays out on a 5x3 grid and the slot offers a total of 25 active pay lines. There is a reasonable amount to win this being, 1,000x your stake however the return to player tells a different story. At just 95% the return to player is below the industry standards, however there are some excellent features that can make up for this. The features you can activate include wild symbols, scatters, boosts, re-spins, and free spins.

There is a separate bet screen where you can pick the value you wish to bet on the next spin. The slot offers a various bet levels that will appeal to a wide audience starting from just $0.25 per spin up to $60 per spin. The largest win comes from the re-spins feature where if you are lucky you could end up winning 1,000x your stake which means you could land a whopping $60,000 from this feature.

The more regular win combinations offer 20x your stake per line or 500x your stake if you land all of them.
The return to player is lower as stated above and expectation amongst players usually starts from 96% so ideally this slot should have at least matched this, unfortunately this could put many players off and the chances of maximizing the wins and leaving with a healthy profit are less likely to happen.

Features

When it comes to the features the first, we will look at is the Wolf which is the wild in this slot and you can use it either to substitute for all symbols to create winning combinations or it can form its own combinations. If you use the wolf on its own, you can expect to win at most 20x your stake and the Moose symbol will reward you with the same.

Next up is the scatter which is represented by the Huntress who is a redheaded lady with a bow and arrow. If you land three of the Huntress symbols you will be rewarded with five free spins and you will also be provided with a single Mega symbol in the middle as in a 3x3 symbols. There are three additional rounds that are added to total, for each of the Mega scatters that appear on your reels.

You can activate the re-spins by landing 6 or more of the Full Moon Bonus symbols, you will be rewarded with three rounds where the aim is to land as many Moon symbols as you can. The number of re-spins reset whenever you land any bonus symbols. These symbols all turn sticky and when the feature comes to an end you will be paid up to 1,000x your stake in this Hold and Win style feature.

Conclusion

There is a good mix of features on offer in this slot and the wins are not too bad, however I still find myself returning to the return to player that could quite easily put players off. When I tested the slot, I was impressed with the aesthetics and I did get lucky and received some good wins, although there was a wait in between with several dead spins to contend with.
There is no getting away from the stunning winter forest scene and the snow-covered animals that sit on the reels plus the fearless female hunter and the supremely magnificent white wolves.
