Road Rage Overview

Created by the notoriously outrageous slot provider Nolimit City, Road Rage puts players on a collision course with a road full of ill-tempered drivers at rush hour. If you were looking for a relaxing game to have a few spins on a quiet Sunday afternoon, this perhaps is not a suitable game for you. However, Road Rage delivers an excitingly high maximum payout, some great features, and a favourable RTP of 96.03%.

Speaking of features, there is quite the array available in this game, starting with the Wild cars bonuses. There are three of these each with a different ability that boosts the value of your spins. These special cars will also trigger the colliding cars feature, incorporating plenty of multipliers for increased win sizes. This game also has something called the Rage Bluff feature, which is triggered before the free spins take place. Depending on the arrangement of cars and the signs they encounter in this feature will decide on the parameters of your free spins. The free spins also come in four different types. All features will be explained in more detail later in the review.

Theme and Symbols

The theme for this game is the affliction or condition known as road rage. Road rage refers to the aggressive and somewhat hyperbolic behaviour that certain people exhibit when they are behind the wheel of a car, and something upsets them, for example, other poor drivers on the road or traffic jams.

The condition is often quite remarkable as it is only under these circumstances of being inside a vehicle when these people will show these wild traits which, as a pedestrian, they would never show. This game represents the main characters you might see on the road, including the gormless woman on her phone, the incredibly aggressive horn presser, and the laidback stoner granny.

The background for this game is the open road seen from a bird’s eye view. In a strip across the middle, you have the actual tarmac of the road, split into three lanes. On the outskirts of this road are stop signs, bushes and the normal roadside detritus such as empty cans and litter.
The playing board for this game is a grid, much like the road represented here.

The symbols for this game are split into low-paying, high-paying and special symbols. The low-paying icons are the rear-view mirror, the mobile phone, the air freshener, the flat tyre and the coffee cup. The cup is the most valuable of these, paying out at 1.5x the bet for the top combination. The more valuable symbols, on the other hand, are the cast of characters starting with Artem, then there is Karen, Gran, the Aristocrat and finally Joe. Joe is the most valuable icon in the game, worth 5x the bet for the top combination. The only special here is the traffic light scatter.

Game Play

Road Rage is played to start with on a 5-reel, 3-row machine with 259 pay lines. To win combinations, players must land three or more matching symbols on pay lines moving from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The betting range for Road Rage is 20p to £100 per spin. To adjust their bet levels, players can toggle their stakes up and down using the tool located at the bottom left-hand side of the screen.

Further information, including a short tutorial and a display of the paytable, can be found via the menu button in the right-hand corner of the screen. The spin and auto spin buttons are located in the centre of the screen.
Volatility for this slot is rated in the high range. The return to player percentage for Road Rage is 96.03%, which is average. The biggest payout that players can win on one spin is 36,000x your stake.

The first set of features in this game is the Wild Cars bonuses. There are three wild car symbols in this game. Each of them triggers a different bonus feature depending on the car’s colour. These are explained below:
Yellow car =Engine Breakdown Feature = Increases all other icon sizes by one on the same reel.
Red =Drive-By Feature = Drives from right to left and increases symbol multiplier by one for all symbols it drives over and leaves a wild where it started and stopped.
Green =Drive-By Feature = Same as Red Car drive by but from left to right.
These cars however have a second ability to activate the colliding cars feature. This happens when the red and green cars travel toward one another, and an odd number of symbols separates them. When this happens, the multipliers on the respective cars are combined, and this new multiplier is displayed on a new Colliding wild symbol. This icon remains sticky if red and green cars become sticky during the free spins feature. Filling the screen with these wilds is how you end up with the top payout.
The main feature in this game, however, is the free spins bonus, triggered by landing three or more traffic light scatter icons on any reel. However, before this bonus begins, the Rage Bluff feature starts.
This is a separate feature that decides the extra free spins and multipliers that will be applied to your free spins round to the wild cars. These wild cars fall onto the reels, move horizontally through them, and take the effect of the road sign symbols it drives by. Here are the road sign symbols you’ll see:
Stop = Stops the car movement and lands only during ‘Rage Buff Respin’.
Turn= Makes the car turn left, right or perform a U-turn. Once the car reaches the U-turn, the Rage Buff Respin is activated. The triggering reel sticks and holds the car in position.
Free Spins= Awards 1 extra free spin.
Car= Increases the sticky multiplier value by 1.
Speed Bump= Increases Drive-By multiplier value by 1.
Dice= Reveals Free Spin, Car or Speed Bump sign with a 2x multiplier.
The free spins round itself is also influenced by how many scatters you used to trigger the bonus. The more scatters, the better your free spins round. The four free spin rounds available to you are explained below:

The Morning Rush feature (3 scatters): Six free spins are awarded, and you’ll play with three rows. One Wild Car is selected and acts as a sticky wild at the stop position during the feature. If you land one or two scatters, the feature is upgraded to the H1ghway Jam or City Mayh3m features, respectively. When you upgrade the feature, each sticky car gives you 1 additional free spin.
H1ghway Jam feature (4 scatters): Eight free spins are played with four rows. Two Wild Cars are selected and act as sticky wilds at their stop position. Every sticky car awards one extra free spin. Landing one scatter will upgrade you to the City Mayh3m feature.
City Mayh3m feature (5 scatters): Ten free spins are awarded and are played on five rows. All three Wild Cars are sticky wilds at their stop position during the feature.
Finally, this game also has a bonus buy option that allows players to enter different free spins game rounds for varying prices. However, this is not available in the UK.

Like many of Nolimit City’s products, Road Rage is a full-on game with tons of feature content and an unusual and visceral theme. Players looking for an energetic and stimulating spinning experience won’t be disappointed. Win potential-wise, things are pretty exciting, too, with a great top payout and an RTP that suggests wins could be fairly regular. As always though, volatility for Nolimit City games is very high.
